Legal Information

Integrating Animal McTimoney Chiropractic with Soft Tissue and Myofascial Therapy

The Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966.

This act regulated the treatment of all animals in the UK.  Under this act, it is illegal for anyone to treat an animal that is not a registered veterinary surgeon OR a paraprofessional (e.g., veterinary chiropractor or veterinary physiotherapist) covered by the Veterinary Surgery (Exemptions) Order of 2015.

Under this legislation, Jay Hrycak is a qualified paraprofessional, insured to use the McTimoney method and clinical massage techniques on animals.

It is a legal requirement for any animal Jay treats to have their vet’s express permission for the treatment to ensure that no treatment is given that may be contraindicated by any condition the animal is experiencing.  Veterinary consent can be sought by the owner, or a referral to Jay can be made directly by the veterinary surgeon.  Most vets are aware of the benefits of treatment and are happy to give their permission for treatment by a fully qualified and insured practitioner.

Chiropractors Act 1994

The term ‘Chiropractor’ is a legally protected term, which can currently only be used solely by people qualified in the treatment of people and registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC).  Jay does not hold a qualification to treat people.  The use of the term ‘McTimoney Veterinary Chiropractor’ does not imply that Jay is a chiropractor and does not imply that she can treat people.  Jay is a member of the McTimoney Animal Association which is the professional body regulating McTimoney animal practitioners.
