Gundog Training
Animals can suffer from back pain, neck pain and other musculoskeletal issues in the same way that humans can. All animals can benefit from treatment whether they are pets looking to be as comfortable as possible, or sports or performance animals, looking to be in tip top condition to be at their best in competition.
Alongside enhancing performance and maintaining comfort and optimum health, McTimoney and soft tissue therapy can be an effective part of any rehabilitation plan following injury or surgery.
Experienced since 1996.
Jay has been training gundogs professionally since 2001. Prior to that she has trained and worked her own and family dogs in the shooting field (beating and picking up) since 1996. During her time at university, Jay learnt about how animals learn as part of her undergraduate degree, and also worked as an apprentice with a local pet dog trainer.
This insight into how to run group classes and instruct people (working with puppies, in adult obedience, and agility classes), allowed Jay to begin to break down the stages necessary to be able to teach a gundog what skills they need to learn to be reliable working companions, as well as to enjoy both the training and the working process.
Work experience
Jay started working with an ADUK (Assistance Dogs UK) charity in 2007. This allowed her to further her understanding of how dogs learn, specifically working breeds.
Along with a lot of experience of working with other people and supporting them through training dogs, this all allowed her to become accredited in 2001 as a Kennel Club Accredited Instructor. This involves a very thorough assessment of not only someone’s understanding of dogs, training, and behaviour, but also of instructing others.
Jay is now also an accredited instructor (full) for The Gundog Club, allowing her to train and assess people to the top (Grade 5) level of their unique Gundog Field Tests.
Jay’s passion is…
…working with people who may not have had a lot of experience working gundog breeds before, or with novice and young dogs, focusing on building solid basics and foundations.
Many of Jay’s customers have gundog breeds and are looking to fulfil their needs through working them within their natural strengths, but do not plan to work them in the field.
Gundog training sessions and workshops:
Jay can sometimes offer 121 sessions, but most of her work with Gundogs is as a training consultant at Potter Paws Dog Training School in Stoke Mandeville, Bucks, where she runs periodic gundog beginner workshops and also a monthly gundog club training session:

All animals may also benefit from treatment as part of a rehabilitation plan following surgery or other veterinary interventions for specific conditions.
“Jay recently carried out a treatment on my 21 year old gelding he definitely enjoyed it and was very relaxed. The next time I rode him there was a noticeable improvement in his way of going. I would highly recommend Jay!”
